Pray For Darryl.com

June 22, 2011

We miss you Darryl!  One year ago today Darryl was taken to his heavenly home.  We were all touched by his presence here on earth and many lives have been changed because of Darryl.

It has been difficult for me to go back to this web site…until recently.  I avoided it for many months.  It just hurt too much.  But now I am so glad it is here and I know that many have read it this past year.

We have all had to deal with the grief in different ways.  Darryl has left a hole in all of our lives.  I think when someone passes away that hole cannot be filled by anyone else on this earth.  He was so much a part of each of us in different ways.

We can’t thank you enough for all the support in the past year.

Please continue to pray for Amy, Steven and Julia, Bryan, Trevor and Aaron.

At 9:40 this morning Darryl passed away and went to be with His Lord in heaven.  Though it hurts and we will miss him so much we are thankful he is no longer suffering.

Last night as we were together around Darryl, we sang and prayed together, and then we read all the website messages together.  It was a wonderful time, we cried and laughed together.  Thank you so much for all the words of support and prayers, it means so much to us.

One of Darryl’s wishes was that he wanted to be at home when he passed away surrounded by his family…and he was.

The funeral arrangements will be handled by Goetz Funeral Home in Washburn , ND.  Their web site is www.goetzfuneralhomes.com .

I will post another update when the arrangements have been made.

Darryl and Amy's 25th Anniversary

Darryl and Amy at the April 11 Benefit

How it Began—

Darryl began experiencing a persistent cough around the end of October, 2009, and after a few days began coughing up blood.  The doctor diagnosed him with pneumonia and prescribed antibiotics, but there was no real improvement.  After several more visits to the doctor, pneumonia was still the diagnosis. Several other diagnostic tests were performed outside of the lungs, but nothing was found.

Darryl was still coughing up blood and his condition so worsened by Monday, December 7, 2009, that he had to enter the hospital in Bismarck, North Dakota. A team of physicians worked to diagnose the problem.  At first they thought there might be a fungal infection in his lungs.  By Friday December 11, Darryl had been diagnosed with Advanced Non Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLS).

For information about NSCLC, see:  http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/pdq/treatment/non-small-cell-lung/Patient

Darryl was the Executive Director of Crystal Springs Baptist Camp in North Dakota.
